Hotel Valentin Sancti Petri has been recognized at the 6th Recognition Awards for Commitment to Sustainability, organized by the Confederation of Businesses of the Province of Cádiz (CEC), in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Cádiz through the DipuInnova+ program.
This award recognizes companies in the province of Cádiz that integrate sustainability into their management model through actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria. For us, it is a source of great pride and also confirms a path we have been following for many years.
This recognition is not the result of a single initiative, but of the continuous work of an entire team committed to a more responsible tourism model. Every decision, from water management and supplier selection to biodiversity conservation, reflects our approach to hospitality, where sustainability has evolved from being a goal into a way of working and becoming a sustainable hotel in Cádiz.
In addition to this recognition, the hotel maintains internationally recognized certifications such as Travelife, continuously renewed since 2019, and ISO 14001 at VAVÁ Playa, in place since 2017. Both certifications reflect our ongoing commitment to environmental management and reinforce our dedication to sustainable tourism in Cádiz.
Each year, the Recognition Awards for Commitment to Sustainability honor companies in the province of Cádiz that have incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals and ESG criteria into their business strategy.
In this sixth edition, the CEC recognized twelve companies nominated by different industry organizations. The nomination of Hotel Valentin Sancti Petri was submitted by HORECA, the Provincial Federation of Hospitality Business Owners of Cádiz.
During the ceremony, held at the CEC headquarters, its Secretary General, Carmen Romero Matute, emphasized that sustainability should no longer be seen solely as a regulatory obligation, but as a genuine competitive advantage capable of driving innovation, improving efficiency, attracting talent and building trust.
More and more companies are demonstrating that sustainability not only benefits the environment, but also contributes to delivering better service and more efficient management. This recognition highlights precisely that forward-looking vision.
The award recognizes several initiatives that are part of the everyday operations of Hotel Valentin Sancti Petri.
One of the most significant is our commitment to reducing single-use plastics. The hotel operates its own reverse osmosis and bottling plant, allowing us to provide locally produced drinking water at every consumption point. This system complies with current regulations and is supported by regular quality testing to ensure the highest standards.
Water is served in glass bottles in guestrooms, restaurants and bars, while take-away services and Balinese beds use Tetra Pak-style containers, significantly reducing the use of single-use plastics.
The jury also recognized our partnership with Gadira, the hotel's exclusive tuna supplier. The company holds the MSC certification for sustainable fishing using the traditional almadraba method, a technique internationally recognized for its respect for marine ecosystems. Gadira is also the supplier of renowned chefs such as Dani García, reflecting the quality and full traceability of its products.
Another initiative is the Butterfly Oasis project, developed in collaboration with the Zerynthia association. The project aims to protect pollinating species and promote biodiversity around the hotel. Although it is one of our newest initiatives, it perfectly represents the sustainability philosophy we are committed to continuing in the years ahead.
In this edition, companies such as Navantia, for its blue carbon and reforestation projects; Bodegas Barbadillo, for its international certification in sustainable viticulture; and Esteros Lubimar, for its work restoring the Cádiz salt marshes, were also recognized.
Sharing this recognition with organizations from such diverse sectors as hospitality demonstrates that sustainability has become a strategic driver of economic development in the province of Cádiz. It also places Hotel Valentin Sancti Petri alongside leading companies recognized for their commitment to sustainable initiatives.
Behind this recognition are hundreds of small decisions made every day. It is the work of the gardening team protecting the dune ecosystem, the kitchen staff choosing certified suppliers, the maintenance department continuously improving the efficiency of our facilities, and every person who understands that a sustainable hotel is built through genuine, everyday actions.
Sustainability is part of the way we understand hotel management. This award does not change our direction. It simply recognizes our efforts and confirms that we are moving in the right direction.
Today, we have already eliminated around 90% of conventional cleaning chemicals through ozone-based systems, and we continue working toward goals such as completely eliminating single-use plastics, reducing water consumption and achieving direct emissions neutrality.
